Barrier Security Products

At Barrier Security there is a process. When a customer approaches us for help at Barrier Security Products, we spend time establishing the customer’s needs.
The solution may be one of the safety and security products on this website or in our catalogue. It may involve modifying an existing product, developing a completely new approach or even sourcing a solution from one of our many international connections.
Barrier’s products are built with integrity, drawing on over 35 years experience in a range of industries, using appropriate materials and manufactured to a high standard.

Case Study 1: “The Sheriff and the Scorpion”

The Problem: The Victorian Sherriff’s Office had been investigating wheel clamps from all parts of the world for two years. They were looking for a product to impound vehicles whose owners had accumulated unpaid fines from parking and other offences. Their needs were quite specific; the clamp must weigh a maximum of 12kg, be easily used by both male and female officers, be simple and quick to fit and be able to accommodate a range of vehicles without damaging the vehicle or trim.

The Solution: We were approached to develop a locally made solution. With only four months to conceive, design and develop a world first wheel clamp, the task was huge. But we did it with mere hours to spare. The “Scorpion” wheel clamp meets all the requirements on the Sheriff’s wish list and more. Since late 2006 over 500 units have gone into service with the Sherriff’s Office. New enquiries are coming from other State and Federal enforcement bodies and private operators.

Case Study 2: “Seven Days, Seven Sites, Five states”

The Problem: In 2006 Australia’s largest retailer came to us to design, manufacture and install a barrier system to separate forklifts from pedestrians inside seven huge new distribution centres being built across five states over an 18 month period. The new system had to have the ability to be customised, installed and repaired onsite without the need for cutting, grinding or welding. A key feature to the design was that it had to protect the ankles of pedestrians from the tynes of up to 150 forklifts moving around a typical centre 24/7. Oh yes and we only had 7 days to complete each installation, a logistical nightmare.

The Solution: Working to the client’s brief we developed a unique modular system we have called “Channel Rail“. Channel Rail comes in five standard length kits that can be mixed and matched to achieve any required run length. Our Channel Rail system is comprised of a 200mm x 75mm fork tyne capture channel at floor level, a knee rail and a hand rail. The posts have a sacrificial role in that they are engineered to absorb heavier impacts by bending rather than remaining rigid and ripping the fixings out of the slab, thereby causing difficult to repair damage to the highly polished concrete floors. Two years on, the “Channel Rail” system is still performing perfectly, with repairs a simple task requiring only basic hand tools and no down time.
