Polyurethane vs rubber cable protectors - what's the difference?

The easy answer would be that one is orange and one is black, but digging deeper there are a few differences that separate the polyurethane from the rubber cable protectors.

The first is weight. Polyurethane by nature is lighter than its rubber counterpart therefore making the polyurethane models lighter. So if weight is a consideration in your application then it would be best to look at the poly cable protectors.

The second differing factor is strength. The rubber cable protectors are rated to five tons per axle whereas the poly versions are rated up to 40 tons. The polyurethane models offer a significant increase in strength if heavy duty equipment such as forklifts or truck traffic will be transversing. Rubber can handle lightweight traffic such as cars and light commercial.

Lastly, price. Polyurethane is a complex material to develop and manufacture so it carriers a premium over the rubber models.

So in summary, if heavy duty, light weight, long lasting are words that appear in your must have column then the Polyurethane Cable protectors are your best bet. If you require an economy, lightweight, temporary solution then the Rubber Cable protectors will more than fit the bill.
