Wheel chocks, are they law or just a good idea?

Wheel chock regulations are very unclear, this comes about partially because of the wide range of applications for wheel chocks. From preventing trailers at loading docks during unloading from moving to stabilising a camper trailer, wheel chocks correctly deployed can help prevent accidents and property damage from unexpected vehicle movement. So whether wheel chocks are law or just a good idea is irrelevant, just do it.
