The Problem
In response to local business growth and a need for increased operational space, Ventia relocated to a larger warehouse in Corio, Victoria (60km outside Melbourne). This blank-canvas facility presented both opportunity and responsibility:
- Increased floor area meant more complex employee movement and equipment traffic.
- Compliance with workplace safety standards was essential from project commencement.
- A new staff social space was planned for training, events, and gatherings—introducing further safety considerations due to mixed pedestrian and vehicle activity.
Recognising these challenges and the imperative to safeguard staff from day one, Ventia sought a tailored safety solution that would:
-
✔ Ensure effective pedestrian and vehicle segregation.
✔ Protect assets and equipment from accidental impact.
✔ Allow operational flexibility as site needs evolve.
To achieve this, Ventia engaged Barrier Group for a comprehensive consultative process, including an initial on-site inspection and risk assessment by a dedicated Account Manager.
The Solution
Barrier Group designed and delivered an integrated, end-to-end safety fit-out addressing Ventia’s unique operational requirements. The solution focused on compliance, flexibility, long-term durability, and high visibility throughout the facility.
Key components included:
NoWeld Industrial Guardrail & Handrail System
Installed to clearly delineate pedestrian walkways and physically separate staff from vehicle operating zones.
- Selected for its high structural integrity and compliance with AS 1657:2018.
- Modular, bolt-down design enables easy reconfiguration as site layouts change.
- All elements were galvanised and powder-coated in safety yellow for maximum visibility and durability in demanding environments.
Ball-Fence Industrial Swing Gates
Positioned at key pedestrian entry/exit points to reinforce safe movement along designated walkways.
- Robust self-closing mechanism reduces the risk of gates being left open.
- Enhances continuous pedestrian protection in high-traffic areas.
Pilot Doorway Barrier Kit
A flexible, temporary barrier system deployed as required.
- Dual retractable belt system (5 or 10 metre options) allows quick separation of zones during vehicle operation or events.
- Can be easily opened for additional space during staff training or social functions.
Industrial Safety Fencing (Machine Guarding)
Repurposed to secure cleaner equipment and hazardous chemicals, preventing unauthorised access.
Line Marking & Wheel Stops
- Clearly marked internal parking spaces promote organised traffic flow and prevent bottlenecks near roller doors.
- Wheel Stops installed to prevent vehicle encroachment, protecting pedestrians and infrastructure.
Pilot Magna-Mount Brackets
Magnetic temporary barriers used to control aisle access and restrict entry at roller doors as needed, offering rapid flexibility for changing operational demands.
